Eye Camp in Passara, Badulla District — March 13, 2025
An MIOT-sponsored Eye Camp was successfully conducted on March 13, 2025, in Passara,
Badulla District, with the support of the Department of Ophthalmology staff from the
Teaching Hospital, Badulla. MIOT provided full funding for both the eye camp and the
subsequent cataract surgeries.
Phase 1: Screening and Immediate Care
- 500 individuals were screened during the camp.
- 63 cataract cases were identified.
- 350 free reading glasses were distributed.
- One patient diagnosed with bilateral vision loss was immediately referred to the Teaching Hospital, Badulla, for urgent surgery.
- A team of 12 assistants (OTs and nurses) from the Ophthalmology Department joined the eye surgeon in conducting the camp.
The contributions of MIOT were highly appreciated by both the public and hospital staff.
Phase 2: Surgical Intervention
We are now organizing cataract surgeries for the diagnosed patients at the Teaching Hospital,
Badulla, and plan to proceed as soon as possible.
